The anunal sitting of the Assessment Court for the Thames County was held at St. George's School, Rolleston street, before H. Kenriek, Esq. Mr Miller watched the proceeding in the interest of the Council. The following objections were received : — HASTINGS BIDING-. Benjamin Gilmour, kauri block of Hastings, valuation last year £550; objection disallowed. Thomas Taylor, property on Tapu Road, valuation £82; valuation sustained. KAUWAERANGA RIDING. Eoberfc Barclay, name of James Duggan was substituted.—George W. Bull's name inserted instead of James Williamson. Phillip Cook, house and allotment Mill street; objection disallowed. A. Hogg, hotel, Cook street; objection struck out as informal. Joseph Lidgard, house and allotment, Franklin street, valuation £15 ; sustained. James McDonald ; notice received too late. D. Schofield, house, Rolleston street; reduced to £8. PARA WAI RIDING. Philip Perry, two allotments and house, Parawai, £36 ; objection disallowed. Philip- Perry, allotment and house, Parawai, £30; valuation sustained. John Read, lot L, Mission land, not owner or occupier ; name struck off. David Stewart, allotment, Grey street, £6; neither owner nor occupier ; name struck out. TOTARA RIDING. J. R. Stone for Shortlaiid Sawmill Company; objection informal. John Read, Sawmill at Warahoe; name inserted instead of li. C. Wick. Henry Alley, property at Hikutaia, valued at £624 ; reduced to £472. F. C. Dean, Orphanage at Kauaeranga ; valuation £40 per annum. Mr Smith said he valued the house and grounds at £800, at which sum it was stated on the Borough balance sheet.—To Mr Dean : He thought the place would let at £40 per annum. Mr Dean said his objection was over valuation; that the property would not let for more than £20. He produced a notice from the Government which stated the property was not rateable. He thought its present selling value was not more than £400; rateable value reduced to £30 a year. John Elliott, Omahu swamp ; objection informal. John Lachlan, reduced from £26 to £20 a year. J. Rattray, recreation ground, Kauaeranga Valley, rated at £50; reduced to £30 per annum. Thos. Spencer, objection informal. A. Beetham, property at Paeroa, valuation (£4O) excessive ; reduced to £3 10s per annum. John Buchanan, Ohinemuri; name struck off. F. C. Dean, property at Waihou, valued afc £248 per annum ; acreage reduced to 2030 acres and retained at £2 per acre. S. Stephenson, Ruakaka block ; not the registered owner ; objection disallowed. D. Stewart, 1200 acres Paeroa block, not the owner or occupier; name struck out. William Tetley, block of land Pairaukahi, excessive valuation ; objection disallowed. THIS DAY. (Before H. Kenrick, Esq., Judge.) Mr Fleming appeared as valuer for the Borough, and produced his appointment as entered in the minute book of the Council.

NORTH WARD. Maurice Casey, allotment, office, and tramway, Tararu Road. After hearing evidence, the court disallowed the objection. L. Ehrenfried, allotment and old Waiotahi hotel, Owen street.-—Objection disallowed. L. Ehrenfried, allotment, Burke street. —Objection withdrawn. L. Ehrenfried, allotment and house, Burke street, £11. — Objection withdrawn. L. Ehrenfried applied to have the name of Mary Hogan inserted as the occupier of an hotel on Tararu Road.—Granted. W. J. Faull, allotment and house, Owen street, £30 as being an excessive valuation. Objection disallowed. T. Lawless applied to have the name of Alfred Buckland inserted instead of his — Granted. W. S. Laurie who was rated as Secretary of the Moanatairi Water Supply Company, objected stating that he was not the secretary. The Town Clerk said he had received rates from him as secretary this week. — The name was retained. The name of James D. Walker was substituted for James Poy for property on Tararu Road. Mr E. Honiss appeared for the New Zealand Insurance Company asking to have the name of the Company substituted for that of Mr Whitaker, as owuer of the Reductions works, Tararu Road.— The application was granted.

The objections of Messrs Richards and Hyman were informal. MIDDLE WAED. James Brien applied to have the name of M. J. Wilkes inserted instead of his own for property in Pollen street.— Application granted. In the case of Gr. W. Bell, the rate on battery and cottage was reduced from £200 to £175.

W. Carpenter's rate for allotment and house on Beach Road was reduced from £40 to £30.

The name of Charles Hill was inserted for three allotments in Campbell street.

For the late Glasgow* Arms Hotel, Pollen street, the name of Henry Moore was placed on the roll instead of L. Ehrenfried.

Thomas Horsbrugh's narue was inserted iv place of L, Ehrenfried for offices in Queen street. George Gardiner's valuation of £9 was sustained.

John McKnight applied to have the name of Robert Graham inserted as owner of property iv Broad street till lately iv his occupation.—Granted. SOUTH WARD. Wm. Deeble, allotment and building used as shop, store, and stable, Rolleston street £45 ; valuation excessive ; and also dwelling, Rolleston street, £20. Mr Deeble called Mr M. Hennelly, who said he was a house, land and estate agent, and he thought the above property would not be worth more than 6s per week. The store -was worth from 12s to 15s per

week. He had never before let property ! in the business streets, but had let plenty I of private houses in other streets. The Court considered that the valuation was excessive, and reduced the valuation. L. Ehrenfried, allotment and hotel, Pollen street, £35; not the occupier. The name of Henry Endres was inserted. L. Ehrenfriedi allotment and Shortland Hotel. The name of James Verrall was inserted aa occupier. Dr Kilgour, two allotments, 270-1, reduced from £6 to £4. Same, allotments 264-8, valued at £15, reduced to £10. Michael Landers' was reduced from £48 to £39. Mr Dean asked what evidence would be required by the Court to prove that no valuation list had been prepared under the 28th section of the Eating Act, 1876. His Worship said that if the valuer did not produce the rate book that would be sufficient proof. Court adjourned.
