A threshing machine, the property of W. Jfldson of Woodend, was burnt considerably, all the riddies being spoiled, on Thursday evening. The men had retired for the night and had seen all safe, but at 11 o'clock they found a lot of straw burning in the interior of the machine. It was insured for £203 in the South British. The feeder of the machine, a Norwegian named Henry Jackson has been arrested on suspicion ofincendiar-
ism. Canterbury v. Otago. The cricket-match was resumed yesterday. Christchurch Ist innings closed for 391. Otago then went in, but were all disposed of for 77. They then followed on, and have lost 3 wickets for 46 runs.
