(To the Editor of the EvBSIKfI Stab.)

Sis,—l notice in your contemporary's issue of yesterday morning a local referring to a letter purported to hare been receired from one who was present at the special meeting of the Borough Council, held on Monday last, reflecting upon your report of the proceedings, which i being true, was, as a matter of course, the reverse of flattering to the proprietor, who. unfortunately, both for the credit of the Thames and his own peace of mind, occupies the position of Mayor. I take- leave to question, sir, if the letter referred to was written outside of the Adrertiser Office, notwithstanding the " modesty " which prevented its pub lication. That your report would annoy Mr Wilkinson is only to be expected from a man of his stamp, who, deluding himself with the idea that he is a second Gracchus, is in reality the possessor of even less than ordinary abilities, as well as being perfectly devoid of common sense — a man who employs his journal in the most unprincipled manner against those who do not minister to his spleen. Altogether, as the meeting showed, he is a man unfit in every possible way for the important position of Mayor of our important municipality.—l am. «fee, One who was Pbesent. Thames, February 16th, 1881.
