The Waikato Races.

[Telegraphic Summary.]

On the first day of the races the weather was fine, and a large congress of spectators gathered to witness the contests. The Grand Stand was thronged witk spectators. The first race was the Handicap Hurdle Eace of 30 soys ; the distance was two miles, over eight flights of hurdles. For this race Harry Mount came first to the post, being a length ahead of Te Whetu, wbo made a good second; Sportsman ran third. Lone Hand and Tempest were scratched. The next race was the

Maiden Plate of 60 soys; the distance If miles. For this race Kenilworth ran first, and Bosarina second. Orakau was scratched. For the Turf Club Handicap of 100 soys; distance 2 miles. ?

Yatapa ran first, being followed by Kenilworth and King Quail respectively for second third places. For this race Maori was scratched. This was no doubt the best race of the day. Golden Crown led at first, but Yatapa and Kenilworth soon overtook him; Lone Hand came in fourth.

The President's Stakes of 35 soys. fell to the share of Maori, who came first to the winning post. Lone Hand ran second, and Ratcatcher third in this race. JRosarina was scratched. This was a good race, the finish being most exciting.

The second days races was also well attended. For the Handicap Hurdle Kace. Te Whetu ran first and Sportsman second.

The Derby was won by Kifleman being closely followed by Moonstone, who ran second.
