WESTPORT.
Yesterday.
The enquiry into the mishap that befel the Charles Edwards took place to-day. Capt. White gave evidence as to the vessel striking, and that the water-tight compartments saved the vessel from a total loss. A crack five feet long and two inches wide was found in the plates under the fore hold, and the engine-room compartments have been repaired. The steamer sails for Nelson to-night.

A man named Stewart, aged 24, was killed in the Colliery Company's mine yesterday by a block of coal which he was hewing out falling on him. The body
was not discovered for some hours after
the accident happened.
