OUR MINES

ALBUENIA.

The manager's fortnightly report to the directors is as follows :—" Sons of Freedom tunnel, 23rd June reef: Stoping is being carried on here; the reef is about two feet wide, and shows colors of gold. Sons of Freedom reef: Two stopes are being carried on here, where we obtain a large quantity of crushing dirt, but during the past month it has spaped rather poor. Although this has been the case, the reef is well-defined, and has a good appearance, so that a change for the better might occur at any time. Bison's low level: 18 feet have been driven during the last fortnight, but no change has occurred in the reef as yet. Intermediate level, hanging-wall leader . Driving here has been continued. Although colours of gold are constantly seen, the leader as yet has not come up to my expectations. I have now opened up a stope on this level on Sons of Freedom reef, as I was obliged to stop stoping operations below, the quartz being of rather a low grade. I intend carrying this stope up to 70 feet level, as we already see colors of gold, and from here up to the lerel above ought to prove payable. 70 feet level, hangingwall leader : I have started to open out a chamber, preparatory to sinking a winze to connect with intermediate level. There being very little done as yet, I cannot speak as to the quality of the leader. Driving on hanging-wall leader has still been continued at 70 feet level. The leader is about 12 inches in width, showing colors of gold, but no specimens. Stoping has been carried on above this? level on specimen leader and Sons of Freedom reef. I may mention the stope on Sons of Freedom reef here is now nearly exhausted, there being but a small stope left to reach the floor of the level above, and this being low grade stuff, I do not think it would pay to remove it, and incur the expense of timbering up.—Thomas Eadfobd."
