Some stir has of late (says the Inangahua Times) been created in Nelson over the reefs at the head of the Karamea. It ia now,,aboiJfc eighteen months since goldbearinß sfcofew was discovered there, since which time the ground has been in the occupation of the prospectors, but within the past few weeks a Mr Burns, of Nelson, has take possession of the ground, some informality having been discovered in the occupancy of the original holders. Four men are now at work opening upon the reef, which is four feet thick, and has a highly promising appearance. The precise locality is at the head of the Karamea and Takaka, and directly under the summit of Gordon's look out. It is the intention of Mr Burns to apply for the reward of £500 offered for the discovery of the goldfield. There is • a good dray road from Motueka as far as Graham's. From the latter place .horses can journey twelve miles, and the remainder of the distance two and a half miles has to be performed on foot. The whole of the line of reef has been pegged oft, and little doubt is entertained that a rich reefing district has been discovered. Mr D. P. Anderson, of Beefton, has just returned from the locality, and to him we are indebted for the foregoing particulars. "I never did see such a wind and such a storm," said a man in a coffee room. " And pray sir," inquired a would-be wit, " since you saw the wind and the storm, what might their colour be ?"' " The wind blew and the storm rose,", was the ready rejoinder.
