HARBOUR BOARD WASTE.
(To the Editor of the Evening- Stab.)
Sib,—ln your able leader of yesterday's issue you referred to various matters in connection with our harbour. I think it is quite time a stop should be put to this extravagant waste of public money. The Harbour Board appear to only dig a grave to bury their money in. They have succeeded in crippling the Goods Wharf; to put tbia right will cost a few hundreds of pounds, and yet they are not satisfied. I It is.true what Billy Rowe said when he was member for the Thames —that if you gave them money they would not know what to do with it. The dredging and wharf prove this to be correct. By the time the wharf is renovated, there will be from £12,000 to £15,000 swamped. How can we expect any assistance from the Government in the face of these works ? It is to be hoped the in-comiug Board will gain the confidence of the residents and the Government.—l remain, your humble servant, W. G. I
