Thames Goldfields Hospital.

„, The ordinary meeting of the Thames Hospital Committee took place yesterday at the Salutation Hotel—L. Ehrenfried, Esq., in the chair. Present: The Eevs. 'V. Lush, jj. Laishley 8 and Father O'Reilly, and Messrs Osborne, McGowan, Mclihone; Airier, Mulligan, and Mennie. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs McCullough, Marshall, and Comer.

The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. BEPOBT OF HOUSE COMMITTEE. The following was the above report :—

Your Committee beg to report that they have taken steps relative to all the matters referred to them afc last meeting. 'The question of the retaining wall at the Old Men's Home has been placed in the hands of the Engineer to the County Council; who has kindly undertaken to have it attended to. With regard to the removal of the patient Me King, your Committee, with the sanction of the House Surgeon, made arrangements for his removal to the house of Mr Ryan, on Block 27. Upon visiting the Old Men'a Home, your Committee found that there w&a a deficiency of clothing fbi 1 some of the in-, mates) and consequently ordered wbat they considered nece«B;»ryj which tho- Dispenser ha* procured them. Your Committee have more than u«ual pleasure in testifying to the genuiue cleanliness -said good order of tho institution under your control, and this applioe more particularly to the cooking de parfcment. Your Committee would suggest the desirability of baying tho outside of tbe Hospital painted and other repairs to the inside, as well as having some attention paid to tbe spouting Your Committee have examined the various ace Hints for tho month, amounting to £46 18s Bd, and salaries £57 12s, which we recommend for payment.

The report was adopted.

The Eev. V. Lush; Assuming of course that there is money to pay for the renovating of the establishment. He did not know how the funds of the hospital stood.

The Chairman : Our funds are always in the same happy state. It is, however, necessary that the buildings should be re-painted.

Mr McGowan pointed out that it was necessary to renovate the passage as well.

Mr Mclihone said the report of the committee provided for that.

Thames Hospital, 2nd February, 1881.— Statement of receipts and expenditure- for mouth ending 3lst January, 1881 :—Dr. Eeceipts': To cash balance, 31st Dec, £2 6a 9d j subscriptions, £26 12s 5 patients' charges, £11 15s; garden, £2 2s 2d; Sank N.Z. overdraft, £233 16s sd. Total, £266 12s 4d. Cr. Expenditure : By Bank overdraft, 31st Dec, £124 10s 8d ; salaries, £66 10s; d^igs and appliances, £6 18s lid ; printing, advertising, and stationery, £1 15s ; maintenance, £36 5s 9d ; funerals, £2 2s ; commission, 15s; insurance, £3 15s; furniture, £24. Total, £266 12s 4d. Assets: Amount already applied for from Government to 31st. Dec, £264 5s 7d ; subsidy due for the past month, £26 12s ; balance, £37 93|d. Total, £3217s Id. Liabilities : Salaries,'"£s7 12s ; monthly trade accounts, £46HaTSd ; Bank of Hew Zealand, £223 16s sd.; _ Total, £328 7s Id. .

"Thte report was adppted. HOUSE STJBGEOn's KEPOET. This* report was as follows :—

I have,the honor tojenprt, for this informat tion 6f your Committee, that on the 31s December, 1880, there remained in your Hospital 14 patients ; that; during the past month, from the Ist to the 31st, 21 patients have been admitted while 17 have been discharged. On the 31st of January fch era wereremaining in your Hospital 18 patients. There have been no deaths during the past month. The average daily sick during the past month was 15 4 31. . The ottendanc9 in oufc-patietite' room were 219, while the actual number treated was 84*. An analysis of the cases treatod in the Hospital gives the following results :—Zymotic 3, constitutional 1 ; local 8, violent 6. Total, 18. There baa been no change in the Old Men's Home during the past month. I enclose a letter from tlis coalr,- William Swindles, askiDg for an increase of pay. 1 have no comment, to make on it further than he has performed his duties satisfactorily during his stay.

Mr Mulligan said that the cook knew when he undertook the duties of cook the amount of work to be done. He considered that the cook was amply paid. Mr Mcllhone said he thought the cook deserved the extra 5s per week; he had been very attentive. He moved "That the request be granted."

Mr C. Abier seconded

Mr Mulligan said that the cook had no night duties to perform. He would propose as an amendment " That the salary remain as it is."

Mr Mcllhone said that once or twice he had been at the Hospital at midnight, and the cook was working then.

The Key. V. Lush said he should not vote against the increase, but he did not know whether such was justified in the present state of the funds. The resolution was then put and carried, the only dissentients being Messrs Mulligan and McGowan.

HOUSE COMMITTEE, Messrs Ahier, McGowan, Mennie, and Osborne are the House Committee for the present month. , The meeting then terminated.
