CHRISTCHURCH.

Yesterday

At the banquet to the Australian Cricketers on Saturday night, about 60 gentlemen were present. E. J. C. Stevens, M.H.R., President of the Cricket Association, filled the chair.

Mr Murdoch, in replying to the toast of the evening, spoke warmly of the great hospitality the Australians received in New Zealand. He said Canterbury defeated the first Australian team on their merits. He hoped the present match would be played out on its merits, and the Australians have an ample vengeance, and he really thought they were in for it. The banquet was a great success throughout.

This day

Tho cricket match was resumed to-day. At lunch the Christchurch team had lost three wickets for 42.
