The steamer Northumberland sailed for London at six o'clock this morning. It is thought no difficulty. will be experienced in shipping a crew of nonUnionists. At the Magistrates Court this morning Messrs Hutchison and Harding, J.P's., attended in accordance with a mandamus from the Supreme Court to give judgment in the case Customs v. Martin, the publican who was convicted for having in his possession several boxes of unstamped boxes of cigars. The Bench inflicted the full penalty of £100 without costs, but recommended that it be. mitigated to a minimum. ..'.,-., ?3io" proprietors ■pf..the White Swan and Pauama Hotels were fined £2 for Sunday trading. The magistrate remarked that if the mitigated penalties now being inflicted did not put a "stop to Sunday traffic the fine would be increased.
