This day.

The Board of Grammar School Governors carried the following resolution, moved by Judge Fenton—" That the Governors concur in the opinion of the Royal Commission on Education, that the head master should be a graduate of the University.'' The motion which is levelled at the present head master is considered a first step to a complete change in the school, excited a long and animated debate and was carried by five to four.

At the Police Court to-day, a large number of boys were sentenced to be whipped and to receive from one to three months' imprisonment for robbing orchards.

The Governor in Hot Water. The Herald states that the Governor gave great offence at Ohinemutu by refusing to shake Mads with a Maoii woman who held out her hand to him, and by resolving at the last moment to stay at the hotel owned by one tribe when preparations had been made for his enter* tainment at an-hotel owned by another tribe.
