DUNEDIN.
This day.
The local manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company has received aa advice from the Londou manager re the
stranded ship Araby Maid. The letter states that the whole of the cargo has been landed, and as the tides are making an attempt will be made shortly to float the vessel. The condition of the hull cannot yet be accurately ascertained, and it is doubtful if the vessel can be repaired to enable her to carry on her cargo within a reasonable time. The master of the Araby Maid attributes the accident to the Loch Byne wrongly riding at anchor with her side lights burning, thus causing him to think she was a vessel under weigh, and to alter his own ship's course. An enquiry will be held.
John Wilson was found drowned in the bay early this morning. He was seen the worse for liquor at ten last night. Believed to be unmarried; aged about 44; police describe him as a loafer.
