WELLINGTON.

This day.

The Fire Brigade Conference continued! The case of Eobb, the fireman who discovered the bodies of the Dewar family at Dunedin, and put out the fire, came up discussion, and it was resolred that for valor at fires the Association present a silver Maltese cross; oae to be given to Robb, if the executive officers find the evidence satisfactory. The balance-sheet showed a balance of funds, and it was resolved not to appeal to the public for contributions until it was seen whether the Fire Brigade Bill passed next session. A number of letters were read from the Insurance Companies approving of its principle. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Government asking them to take up the Bill next session.

Harrisi President of the Fire Brigade Association, Vice-Presidents Whiteford and.Lightfood, and Secretary Robertson, waited'on the Premier and Mr JRolleston this morning, asking them to take charge of the Fire Brigade Bill next session. The Premier considered it would be better for the interests of the Association if the Bill be taken up by private individuals, and suggested that Government would see Stevens and Waterhouse on the subject. Both Messrs Hall and Kolleston entirely concurred with the principle of the Bill, and would give it all their support.
