General Grant, e^-President of the United States, is using his utmost exertions to prevent the construction of the Panama Canal as projected by M. De Lessens. He delivered an address, de - Bouncing the whole scheme, and recommending the catting of a canal through Nicaragua, taking advantage of Lake Nicaragua instetfd of across the Isthmus of Panama.
