DUNEDIN.
Yesterday. The match between the Otago twentytwo and the Australian eleven commenced on the Caledonian Ground this afternoon, The weather was lovely.
Murdoch won the toss, and took Edvantage of the capital wicket that had been prepared. About 400 spectators were present at the outset.
Some difficulty was experienced as to settling the number of runs for boundary hits.
Jarvis and Spofforth first represented the visitors, Cook bowling from the Northern and Moore from the opposite end.
When the score stood at ten, Spofforth would have lost the wicket to a certainty had Parker returned the bull properly. Runs came very slowly, the field being so well placed that it was difficult to get a ball away for more than a single, excepting for hits to the fence. After half-an-hour's play the score only stood at 16.
McNeil then took the ball from Moore.
