This day

Hislop, clerk in the Union Sash and Door Company's employ, has levanted by the Julia Price for New Caledonia, taking with him at least £60 of the Company's cash. He came from Christchurch three or four years ago, and leaves a'wife and family here unprovided for.

A conference took place this morning between the Education Board and the City School Committee re the dispute over the Training College. The Board are likely to make concessions.

Purcell, the insolvent debtor, who has remained perdu for some time past, was arrested last night by Detective Jefferey after an exciting chase through the town. £51 in cash was got with him.
