This day.
A fire occurred afe Dixon's cordial factory at eight o'clock this morning. The building was greatly damaged, and the machinery is not insured. The fire occurred in the office, but the books were saved. The office and building were completely gutted. No business can be carried on. The building was insured in the South British for £400; stock, £500, office not knowa.
Fatal Drowning Case. H. Buckridge, of the firm of E. Buckton & Co., merchants, was drowned at Montere yesterday. He, together with his family, had been staying out of town, and they went boating, and returning all landed but deceased's eldest son, when the dingy broke loose, and a strong wind drove her out to sea. Mr Buckridge, seeing his son's danger, sprang in the water to swim to the dingy, but was unable to overtake it,, and, his strength failing him, he sank. The body was recovered two hours later. A messenger arrived in Nelson, and a steam launch went in search oi the dingy, which, with young Buckridge, was brought in in safety this morning.
