NEW WHAU.

The following is the latest report from the mine manager :—" To the directors of the New Whau Goldtnining Company.— Gentlemen,—l beg to submit the following report: Westward of the cross-cut we have driven a further distance of 20 feet, making the total distance 60 feet, and at that point we have broken into some old working that had taken out the main lode, but have left the leader that we have been working on in the hanging* wall. The leader where we broke through is six inches in thickness, showing colors of gold, but not so good as it was 5 feet back from the face. Eastward of the cross-cut we have driven a further distance of 10 feet; the leader is about 6 inches in thickness. The leading stope we have carried along for 65 feet; the leader in the stope is from 6 to 20 inches in thickness, snowing colours of gold when breaking down. I have stopped the itopiog on account of the &i? beiag

Tery light and started to putthe rise up to tjtu;drive above. The rise is now up 30 feet, and will have to go up a further distance of 15 feet to hole through to the drive, and when through it will give good ventilation. Twenty five feet westward of the cross-cut we have started to sink a winze; it is down 14 feet. The leader appears to make larger as we go down, and it is now about 15 inches m thickness, showing strong colors of gold when taken down.—l am, &c, Chas< D. WslSON." ■■ ' ', ■
