ANOTHER BATTERY.

A meeting of persons interested in

claims situated in the vicinity of Lipsey's Creek was held at the British Hotel on Thursday evening. The following claims were represented : — Happy Thought, Prosperity, Homestead, Yankee Maid, Spanker Boom and others. Mr J. C. Sherrington occupied the chair, and explained the object of the meeting. A Mr Lamb, a shareholder in one of the claims named above made the following offer to the claim holders of that vicinity: He would be prepared to place an engine capable of driving ten head of stampers, if the others would contribute sufficient funds to purchase the stampers and other necessary gear. Some discussion on the offer took place, and Mr Horrell, who is going to the Thames with a trial parcel from the Prosperity, volunteered to obtain information rospecting the probable cost of the stampers, etc. It being stated that the Warden had already refused a water right in Lipsey's Creek, a deputation was appointed to wait on Mr Kenrick, and present a memorial

from the claimhblders and general public asking for the use of the creek, and pointing out that were half an ounce per ton obtainable, it would be unpayable to bring the quartz to the flat. The deputation will consist of one shareholder of each of the claims. The customary compliment to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
