NEW WHAU.

The stone broken out from the hangingwall leader and the intermediate level in the winze yesterday shows strong colours of gold, though not rich enough to be called picked stone. The lode is increasing in.size, and is now from eight inches to a foot in thickness. The. manager has ceased stoping operations, on account of the lightness of the air, but as soon as the rise on the west end of the-hanging- wall leader drive is finished, the ventilation will be greatly improved. The rise is now up a distance of 30 feet, the manager estimates that 15 feet more will bring him into a drive above. About 30 feet east of the cross-cst, he has sunk a winze, which' is down about 12 feet. The whole distance driven on this leader, east and west, is about 12u feet, and colours of gold have been seen the whole distance.
