London, January 12. < Trial of Land' Leaguers., The trial of tile Land at Dublin is still proceeding. The case for ■the prosecution has closed, and addresses of counsel for the defence are now being heard. Debate on Address in Eoply. The debate on the Address In Eeply was resumed in the House of Commons to-day, and lasted during the greater part of the sitting.
Lord Hartington made an exhaustive I speech, in th^course of which he severely attacked the'lrish Land League, and its mode of 'action. Alluding to the Land Bills, wliich has been introduced by the Government, he expressed the opinion that its provisions were founded on lines of justice to both tennant and landlord. Communication through of an intermit-; tent character has again been established Natal; and the Transvaal, and information has been received regarding the position of British troops at Polscbifstroot. The Boers hare laid seige to the place, but the garrison can hold out for a month, having sufficient supplies for that period, and it is hoped that by that time reinforcements can be sent for the relief of the,besieged. Australian tallow unchanged. Athens, January 11. The Greek Government has had under re-consideration a proposal of the Powers, that they should arbitrate for the settlement of the frontier question dispute with Turkey and it is announced that the Government must decline the proposal unless the basis of the guarantee to he made to Greece are first stated. Constantinople, January 11. Osman Pasha has been appointed Minister' of War in the Turkish Ministry. This is generally, considered to be an indicßtion of a warlike intention towards Greece on the part of the Sultan.
