The awards to the wool exhibits at the Exhibition were announced to-day. New Zealand exhibits take the following prizes

in merinos:—-Gollon, of Mangatataru, second. Second merinos—"Young and Dalgetty of Oamaru, first:, Long, second; Williams, of Mangatatutu, second, Long unwashed—Tanner, of Eiverstead, second; Blair, of Wanganui, third. Sir Samuel Wilson takes-the champion prize for wool at the Exhibition. The show of grain and agricultural produce at the Exhibition opens on the 23rd February. A letter appears in the Argus, drawing attention to the disagreement which exists between New Zealand and New South Wales Government regarding ther tariff for telegraph messages between Australia and New Zealand. Negotiations for the reduction of the tariff, consequent on the departure of the cable repairing ship Agnes, from Australia, were proceeding for some time, but finally failed. The i New Zealand Government has, however, j reduced the rates on messages from New Zealand, but the charges from Australia remain at original rates. The Argus referring to the communication, supports the proposal which the correspondent makes, that the matter in dispute betweeu the two Governments should be referred to the Intercolonial Conference, which meets in Pydney on the 13th inst. Sydney, Monday. The brig Mavis has arrived here from the Solomon Group, and reports that the captain and crew of the Sydney schooner Zephyr have been- massacred and the vessel plundered and burnt.
