This day. Resignation of the Native Minister, At a late hour yesterday evening the Hon. Mr Bryce forwarded to the Premier his resignation as a member of the Minis try in consequence of his colleagues refusing in Cabinet to accept his advice for the immediate adoption of active I measures against Te Whiti at Parihaka. They contended that they were under a plrdge to Parliament to first endeavour to give full effect to the West Coast Commissioners' recommendations. Mr Bryce quits the Ministry on perfectly friendly terms. It is understood that Mr Eolleston will take temporary charge of the Native Department. The Absconding Sweep Mas. It is now ascertained that Geo. North i left by the 'Frisco steamer, taking with Mm the £4.000 subscriptions for his sweep on the Wellington Cup, and some hundreds on account of another sweep on the Canterbury Cup. He had privately managed to dispose of most of his property here. A oreting of his creditors here to-day resolvd to take legal advice regarding the position of affairs. Charges against two publicans for Sunday traffic were heard today. Judgment reserved. Salvatore Cemino was fined in a nominal penalty for a breach of the Births, Deaths, and Marriage Act by neglecting to register the birth of a child within the period prescribed in the Act.
