The Naval Brigade.

We perceive that a special meeting of ihe Naval Brsgade is to be held on Mo a. day evening next. We understand that the matters to be discussed are—Firstly, the number of representatives to be sent

to the Eifle Association meeting at Nelson in March next; and, secondly, with reference to the Auckland Eegatta.

The Victoria has, by late alterations, been greatly improved in her sailing qualities; so much so, that it has been suggested that she should be entered in the race for " open boats ; " not, however, with the view of running against the crack Auckland boats, but for a trial with the Auckland Naval gun-boat. A promising crew, consisting of three Navals and an ex-Naval, who it is proposed to re enrol in the company, is in training for the four-oared outrigger race ; and as this crew, which will represent the Thames generally as weli as the Brigade, is expected to give a good account of themselves, it is to be hoped that they will meet with liberal support from the Thames generally., Two or three gentlemen have already promised a "-fiver" each.

At the last two meetings of the Sifle Association our " Naval Boys " brought this district to the front—Lieut. Gordon having won the Carbine Championship in 1879, and Petty-Officer A. Thomas that for 1880. . We wish them every success this year, and if our other Volunteer companies will send down their crack shots, we should not be much surprised if both Rifle and Carbine Belts came to this district.
