Ehrenfriend's Ales and Porter at the Melbourne Exhibition.

In the columns of the ' Argus of the 23rd December, we find the recommendations of the jury, and the prizes awarded the aleß and porter manufactured by

Messrs Ehrenfried Bros., at their brewery

in Mackay street. The chairman of the jury, making the recommendations was Mr Johnston, Government analytical chemist of Victoria, a gentleman well quali-' fled to speak upon the excellence of such productions: Porter in bulk, second order of merit, both equal, Ebrenfried Bros., of Thames, and Boyd and Head Melbomrn; while for porter in bottle, a similar prize was awarded the local production in company with that exhibited by Billsen, of Beeehworth, Victoria. When we come to pale ales bottled, we find Ehrenfried Bros., taking third order of merit (all equal), with Crowe and Co. of Christchurch. Thus we see in competition with all the brewers of New Zealand and the adjoining colonies, besides such well-known English and Continental makers as Bass, Allsop, Payne and Co.,

Tennent, Dreher of Vienna, Beck of Bremen, Ehrhardt of Strasbourg, and many others, our local productions take most prominesjjfc places, and three prizes. We cannot say that we are surprised very ranch at this result, for at. the Sydney -.E^iluition high, honors were also awarded tlifes productions of .hhreniried Bros. It must be gratifying to consumers of such liquors to find that the article having the largest consumption on the Thames is so highly thought^of;. by such competent judges as the ;ge%|lemen selected by the Commissioners of the Sydney, and Melbourne Exhibitions. We are sure all

residents on the Thames will be gratified find that a local production, and one turned out at a manufactory of comparatively recent erection; should so well have maintained the credit of the place, and successfully competed with brews of world wide reputation. Mr L. Efarenfried is to be congratulated upon the honors won by his manufactures exhibited at Melbourne.
