An official denial has been given to the report that a torpedo had been found under the bow of H.M.S. Lord .Warden, in the Firth of Forth.
A fire broke out at Liverpool Docks to-day, but it was extinguished before any damage was done. It has since been discovered that the fire was caused by incendiaries who had used petroleum with, the evident intention of completely destroying the docks. Capetown, January 4. STewa has been received from Durban that a considerable body of Boers yesterday entered Natal from the Transvaal, and marched some distance across the border. They came up with a detachment of British troops, and opposed its advance towards the Transvaal. Ifc is net known whether any fighting occurred.
. Bombay, Januaryj4. The military authorities have redflred orders to despatch further reinforcements of Indian troops to Natal.
