CALOGRAMS.

[JJeuteb's Special.]

London, January 4.

Owing to rumors of an intended Fenian raid on the Armouries of the Volunteer Corps in England, the authorities at the War Office have ordered precautions to be taken at the head-quarters of the various corps with a view to prevent the success of any attack on the Armouries.

A rumour has found general currency here to-day that a torpedo has been found to have been placed under the bows of Her Majesty's ship Lord Warden, which is lying in the Firth of Forth, on the east coast of Scotland. The alleged act is attributed to the Fenians. No official confirmation of the rumour has been obtained. Capetown, January 4. News has been received from Basutc* land that a patrolling force of Cape Eifbs, under Colonel Carrington, has safely returned to camp at Mafeting. After having come up with a convoy of provisions and arms and ammunitions, which had been despatched from head-quarters for the use of the garrison. The arrival of the convoy has materially strengthened Colonel Carrington's position.

Further news to hand shows that the recent defeats of the Basutos, Pondomies, and Tambookies, by the Colonial troops, have had a good effect on the other tribes. The Tembus, , who had also joined in the rebellion, are now yielding, large numbers of the tribe having recently submitted to the Cape forces # which were operating against them.
