The crew of the New Ireland colonising steamer Genii have been insubordinate, alleging that they were insufficiently fed. The Captain appealed to the authorities, but they have declined to interfere, on the ground that there is no Liberal Consul here. The crew, who are com- , posed mostly of Malays and Chinese, have come ashore in a body, and refuse to re-embark. Sydney, Monday. Arrived : The Union Company's steamer Rotomahana, from Auckland. Bishop Parker has had a severe attack of paralysis. Prayers were offered up yesterday in the churches. He has decidedly improved to day. Melbourne, Saturday. , The attendance at Flemiogton course j today was the largest of any Champion Meeting. The weather was' aplendid.
His Excellency the Governor was present. The following are the results of the two chief events:—Normanby Stakes, 5. furlongs--Liberator, 1; Monmouth, 2; Welcome Jack, 3. Won by a bare halfhead ; time, 1 mm. 4fsecs.
Champion Stakes, 3 miles — Grand Flaneur, 1; Progress, 2 ; Sweetmeat, 3. Wellington and Trevallyn also started. The race resolved itself into a match between Grand Flaneur and Progress, who were together all the distance, but the former finally won by 2 lengths. Time, 2mins. 40secs. Melboubne, Monday. ,- The cricket match Australian Eleven versus the Combined Team was resumed to-day. The latter continued their innings, and were all disposed of for 99 runs. The Australian Eleven then went in for their second innings, and were all out for 185 runs. The following is the individual scores :— Blackham, 1.b.w., 6; A. Bannerman, caught and bowled, 11; Murdoch, caught, 39; Spofibrth, caught and bowled, 4; McDonnell, caught and bowled, 36; Slight, run out, 4; Bonner, caught, 13; Boyle, caught and bowled, 4; Palmer, 1.b.w., 2 ; Groube, caught, 19; Alexander, not out, 43; extras, 4—Total, 185.
The combined team then went in for their second innings, and when stumps were v drawn for the day they had lost four wickets for 4£j runs.
