The P. and O. Company's steamship Cathay with the inward Suez mail, dated London November 19, arrived here last night from Galle.

% Bbisbane, Wednesday.

A destructive fire occurred last night at the wharves at Petries' Bight on the Brisbane river. It broke out at midnight and raged for some time, doing consider* able damage to property, though destruction was not so great as it was at first feared it would be. The actual extent of the loss is not yet known. The insurances comprise £2000 ia the South Britsb, half of which is reinsured with the National and Colonial of New Zealand, also £800 in the Standard and £300 in the National.
