Yesterday
The strike of printers ended to day in their unconditional surrender. The result of the movement is that of some 26 men who went out, about half had their places filled up, and must seek employ* ment elsewhere.
The Times and Star havewome out regularly and little difference has been observed in their appearance. -
A man named Petherbridge left Lyttelton last night in a canoe with the intention of paddling to the head of the bay, and he has not since been heard of. As no tidings of his whereabouts can be learnt from any of the bays in the harbor, it is feared that he has met with an accident. "
A cottage occupied by J. Booth at Kaiapoi was destroyed by fire yesterday Booth was in bed asleep and was rescued in an unconscious state, but under medical treatment he soon recovered.
