Herbert, who went home from Mel bourne to receive a legacy, and murdered his wife's sister, has been hanged.

Boyd, of Newcastle, challenged Hanlan in terms of the championship race to row a match for £200 a-side. Hanlan accepted, and proposed that the race shall take place at the end of January. Boyd wishes to meet him six weeks later, The time is at present unfixed, and it is undecided whether it will take place on the Thames or on the Tyne.
