HOPEFUL.
Good progress has been made with the extension of the low level since the contractors completed their last contract. The face of the drive is now well into the Hopeful ground, and the manager has commenced to break the lode down. The I quartz is heavily charged with minerals, and has a rather likely appearance. There are still some 50 feet to drive before reaching the junction of the cross lode, where the best gold was go; on the No. 2 i level, but if the present class of country continues, the manager expects to have that distance driven in ahjut a month's time. On the No. 2 level the drive on the mundic voin has been extended a short distance, and another small leader intersected, from which severe! -pounds of gcod golden stone have been obtained. A rise is baing put up on this leader, and a little gold is seen after every breaking down. The rise on the other leaders intersected is still being continued, a few pounds of golden stone being occasionally obtained. The manager has now on hand nearly ICOlbs of picked stone, the greater part of which has been broken out of these small leaders.
