The Bay of Plenty Times has fallen across a noveltjfon which it thus discourses:—" In tkese hard time?, when business is dull and money is scarce, it is a novelty to come across a gentleman like one of our Katikati subscribers that called at this office the other day and manfully laid down a cheque for his subscription two years in advance. Such events are so rare in the printing business that at first, our clerk informs us, he could hardly realise that he was not dreaming or the victim of some wild imagination, and rould only, repeat in a hushed tone, two years subscription in advance. However, he took the cheque, and »s the donor quietly folded up the receipt, he could not help thinking how pleasant it would be if there were a few more men who so justly appreciated the exertions of the printer. Two years in advance! and the ledger full of accounts, some of them nearly double that time in arrears. It wes too ttuobr Our clerk bade this model subscriber goodbye with as much ceremony as he would his greatest friend, merely remarking,; sotto vocs, "Heis a man, take him for all in all. We shall not look upon his like again." We hope that this good example will have the effect of shaming some of our lagging subscribers into some little show of decency in the payment of their accounts..
