RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before Dt Kilgour, J.P.) INTEBPLEADEB.
An execution at the instance of Mr Hope of Tararu for £1 5s Od. The bailiff seized on execution 20 geese, including ganders.
Mr Brassey entered an interpleader to show that the geese were not the property of Mrs Scantlan, against whom the execution was issued, but was the property of Miss Scantlan, daughter of Mrs Scantlan, a blushing young maiden of 19. He called evidence in support of his case, and after a long examination of witnesses the bench held the interpleader good, and ordered the geese to be restored to Miss Scantlan with costs. In consequence of a suggestion sctt> voce from an Officer of the court, Mr Brassey made a demand for the eggs laid by the geese during fife days imprisonment. The difficulty in this oase was to define how many geese and ganders there were, as the learned gentleman claimed six eggs per day per goose. The question was rather too knotty for His Worship, and he declined to solve the problem, allowing only £1 16s costs. Court adjourned.
