THIS DAY.

(Before L. Ehrenfried and Captain Skene, Esqrs., J's. P.) BREACH OF VAGBANT ACT. John M'Ginty, Samuel Quadri and his brother were charged with committing a breach of the peace on the 13th inst. in Grey street, Shortland. „, The Bench having heard the case, administered a caution to the boys, and told them they had better behave themselves in future. In this case Sergeant Mulville told the Bench that the defendants Quadri had been before the Bench before. The three were bad boys and disgraceful'larrikins, who were constantly annoying respectable people. BREACH OF BY-LAWS. John Murphy was charged by Sergtv Mulville with a breach of the Borough by-laws by leaving an obstruction whereby danger was threatened to life and limb, in Pollen street. '

Mr Dodd appeared for the defendant, and raised an objection to the summons on account of the law under which it was laid being repealed by the Act of '76. The Bench, after hearing the legal argument, overruled the objection, and proceeded with the case. Evidence was brought to prove that the heap of stones was laid in Pollen street by the defendant, and that he had not a permit to do so. The Bench considered the offence proved, and fined the defendant ss, and costs. Another charge against the same defendant for not keeping a light burning near the obstruction, was dismissed, the Bench considering that the first fine was sufficient to meet the justice of the case.
