Thames Borough Council.
The following reports will be brought up at the usual meeting of the Borough Council this evening :— ANNUAL BEPOET OF THB FOBBMAN OF WOBKS. Gentlemen,—l have the honor to present report for twelve months—viz., from 17th December, 1879, to 15th December, 1880—detailing the works executed by oon tract and day labor, amount expended and list of Touchers. On the south side of Mary street, from Pollen Btreet toDeeble's store in Rjlleston street, and from Grey street to Willoughby Btreet in Polleu street the water tables hare been repaired for a distance of 1631 feet at a cost of £163 2s. ASPHALT. The footpaths laid during the laat year were—South Ward, 1913 yards; and Middle Ward, 1214s yards-3127| yards in all, at a ooit of £390 18s Bd. TOP DBESSING. North Ward, 30 sup. yards; Middle do., 3236 yards; South do., 958; total, 4224 yards at a cost of £L 0 12s 8d (for labour only, this amount being included in wages). BOAD METAL. The metal on hand on 17th December 1879, was 50 cubio yards, and the quantity broken during the year has been 368? yards at a cost of £156 9s 3d or an average of 8s 6d per yard, or a total of 418^ yards. From this 389 yards have been spread in the different parts of the Borough as follows : — South Ward : Grey street 40 yards, Pollen street 85 yards, Maokay street 7 yards, Karaka fioad 16 yards—l4B yards. Middle Ward: Pollen Btreet 90 yards, Albert street 8 yards, Brown street 6 yards, Beach Road 10 yards—lls yards.. Worth Ward: Waiotahi 3 yards, Tararn Road 40 yards, Golden Crown street 40 yards. Pollen street 44 yards—l 27 yards, leaving on hand 29£ yards. COMTBACTB. The following contracts hare been exeouted during the past year:—North Ward, A. Butler, building wall at Tararu Road, £97 17s; 0. Hastings and T.
Kerr, taking out timber from old Waiotahi culvert, £6; Do. cutting out ground for new culvert, £9; J; West, making and laying down new culvert, £23; Smith,and Fleming, making footpaths, 7 chains, £7 3s 4d; Middle Ward :— contracts for cutting and cleaning drains, Queen of Beauty, Fleming, £6 13s; J. Bull, cleaning culverts, £2; A. and G. Price, floodgate and fixing, £7; J. West, making frames for floodgate, and making and laying culvert, £8 10s; J. Smith, cutting out ground for culvert and filling in same, £4. South Ward.—J. Donnelly gravel from Hape Creek for Baillee Street, 232 yds, £11 12s; total contracts, £182 15s 4d. BEPAIBS OB JOBBING WOBK DONE. North Ward:—Lengthening culvert at Capt. Fraser's, £2 10s; footpath from schoolhouse on Tararu Road to Kuranui Hill battery with small culvert to each house, £6112s 8d; Waiotahi footpaths and erected dam, £11. Middle Ward:— Cochrane street, open flume, £26 111; made good road and cnlvert in Upper . Albert street, £2; repaired culvert aad footpath on Karaka Road, £3; repaired culvert, in Upper' Albert street, £1 lOi.. ■ South Ward:—Laid culvert at junotion of Mackayand Willoughby streets, £4; laid down culvert at junction of Baillie and Willoughby street*, £2; total jobbing work with timber, £114 3s Bd. BSPAIBB OB JOBBING WOBK WITHOUT TIMBIB. The repairs effected in the North, Middle, and South Wards were at a cost of£l36 o lssod. m CLEANING DBAINS. . ' The cost of cleaning drains in the Borough for the year was £95 17s 4d. EXPENDITUBB. The following shows the amount ex* penied for the twelve months':'*— Salaries, £519 5s 8d; wage*, £150 2a 10d; carpenter (laying water tablet, jobbing, and repairs), £82; stable aeeotmt, £62 3s Id; wages (cleaning drains), £95 17s 4d; incidental for HM work, £1118s 9d; timber (LambßrOsV. Bead, and Short land Sawmill Co.), £177 19s 4d; nails, £6 4s; material, asphalts, £166 4a lOd; contracts, £182 15s 4d; road metal, £156 9s 3d.-To'al, £1,610 0» sd. * ©BAINS. ■ The drains in the Borough, especially in Baillie, Macky, Sealey and other streets in the South Ward where there are no water tables, are at timet very offensive in summer.
