WELLINGTON.

! Thisday. MINISTEBS ON THE MOVE. The Under* Secretaries will very quickly rale the colony. Nearly all the Ministers are off for the Christmas holidays. In faot there would be none of them at Wellington during the next and following three weeks, but Sir Arthur Gordon told the Premier Very plainly that a quorum of the Cabinet had better remain at the seat of Government in case of any press* ing matters necessitating Executive action. There are so many rumors about one Minister going, another postponing his projected trip, and a third changing his mind, that it has leaked out that owing to official etiquette a reconstruction of arrangement must be agreed upon. 1 THE aOVEBNOB'B MOVEMENTS.

It is understood that Sir Arthur Gordon will go to Auckland for the Christ* mas holidays, and in all probability will be present at the races there. The Governor is likely to remain a couple of months in your capital unless some unforseen con* tingency arises which will necssitate his return to the seat of Government at the Empire City. .■ ■ , . ASMS ACT OFFICERS. > I expect next issue of the General; Government Gazette will notify the appointmennt of Senior Sergeant O'Grady, your local chief of Police at the Thames, Licensing Officer under the Arms Act. THE TAUPO COUBT. There is a rumpus over the breaking up of the Native Lands Court at Taupo. I suppose the next sitting will be held at Wanganui. BHIFTING OFFICIALS. In all vacancies to be filled up Minis* ters seem anxious to send their friends to the district where officers are dispensed with. In the case of Auckland. Mr Stewart gets a retiring allowance of about one thousand pounds. Whilst a friend of the Cabinet is sent to fill the appointment caused by the " reduction " of the Auckland branch, with his passage, expenses, and a like salary. Truly this is decreasing the cost with a vengeance. Oh ! re* trenchment, what an empty name it is.
