ALBURNIA.
The mine manager reports to the directors as follows:—Lincoln Castle section: The trial crashing has, I am happy to say, fully answered expectations, there being a return of 22ozs gold from 7 loads of quartz, and we are still getting some picked stone. The reef is about two feet wide at present, so that as the stopes are only just opened up, there is not a large quantity of dirt getting as yet from this place. Sons of Freedom tunnel: Storing is still being carried on up in the Sons of Freedom reef. The reef still looks well, although we have not seen so much gold during the last few days. Bixon's crosscut: This cross-cut is now in a distance of 172 feet, 35ft. being driven during the past fortnight. During the last few days we cut a leader about 6 inches through, making water freely, after pass* ing which the country became hard again, which renders progress slower than I could wish. 160-feet level, east: Stop* ing has been carried on here, but the reef is very hard, and of low grade quality. Intermediate level, went: The stopes are now nearly finished. 70 feet level: We have again started to drive on the hangingwall leader, which has greatly improved in quality, and looks well for gold. Stoping is still being carried on the Sons of Freedom reef and hangingwall leader, where we are obtaining some fair quality crushing dirt. Before again starting the Sons of Freedom tunnel, Mr Bayldon yesterday made a survey to ascertain whether we have reached the Whau boundary, but I have not yet ascertained his opinion. At the same time he made a surrey of the new low level. He is of my opinion, that we can drive on a reef through the Watchman ground until it junctions with the Sons of Freedom reef. This will be at or near the point in the Middle Star section, where they originally obtained large quantities of gold, and as there are other reefs likely to junction with this one in driving, it is my opinion that the company would be remunerated for any outlay they would make in this direction.—Thomas Badioid.
