In consequence of the several mines starting work, there was quite a scarcity of men on Tuesday night. Most of the Thames unemployed were quickly picked Moraing Star.—During the past week the shareholders of this mine have heen| working Bteadily with three shifts, and a good deal of both driving and prospecting hat been done. On Tuesday in trenching near the top of the, Spur, they came upon the outcrop of a three branched leader, showing a few colors of gold in the stone, and evidently running into the main lode. ■. A rumour was current yesterday that hard country had been met with in the TeArohaNo. 1 South, but on making enquiries we find that such is not the - case. Both upper and lower drives are making fair progress through good working country—not so soft as to require timber. The big reef should be to hand in a day or two, but the Prospectors' leader is not expected to be to hand for a couple of weeks yet. During the rush to peg out alongside the Golden Anchor claim on Tuesday morning, LangsfordXa West Coaster), H. E. Jones and others managed to obtain a piece of ground to the south the Anchor, and on the line of reef—indeed, Christie and party's workings are withiu one hundred feet of their boundary. The reef closely resembles the Prospectors' in appearance, and surrounding country is similar. About a dozen claims were pegged out on the supposed line of reef.
