Thames Goldfields Hospital.
The usual monthly meeting of the above institution was held yesterday afternoon at the Salutation Hotel, Mary street. Present—T. L. Murray, Esq., (Chairman), the Roys. E. Laiahley, S. J. Neill, and P. O'Beilly, and Messrs Ahier, Badford, Mulligan, Mellhone, Prater, Osborne, and Marshall. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. * HOUSE COMMITTEE'S BIPOBT. This report stated that everything had , progressed satisfactorily during the past ! month, and recommended the payment of salaries, £59-9s Id, and tradesmen's accounts £52 6s. The report also stated that in consequence of the continued illness of a patient, it had been impossible for the committee to question him with regard to the alleged attempt to extort money from him by the Hospital authorities. . The Secretary drew the attention of the Chairman to two other accounts, not included in the report, and recommended that they should be paid, being two months old. The report was adopted, and the ac*. counts were ordered to be paid. tbeasubeb's statement.
The following was the Treasurer's statement for the month of November :— Receipts: To cash balance forward, £1 6s; subscriptions, £23 6s lOd; donations, £28 14s; patient's charges, £3 12s 6d; garden, £2 16s; Government N.Z., £253 4s Id; Bank of New Zealand overdraft, £44 0« 7d; total, £367.—Expenditure : By Bank overdraft 31st October, £235 5s ; salaries, £57 12s; maintenance, £38 12s 6d; commission, 15s 9d; furniture, £12s2d; bedding, £17s» miscellaneous expenses, £1 Is 4d; building and repairs, £3 18s 9d; cash balance, £17 5s 6d; total, £357.—Assets: To cash balance, £17 5s 6d; subsidy for months of October and November, £6718s 10d.—Liabilities: By Bank of New Zealand overdraft,
£44 Os 7d; salaries, £59 9s Id; trade accounts, £5 8s; <do., £2 12s 6d. The report was adopted. The monthly statement was also read 'and adopted. HOUSE StrBGEON's BBPQBT. Dr C. H. Huxtable, acting House Surgeon reported as follows :—•" At the beginning of the month, Mrs Everett , died of apoplexy. Two cases of accident were admitted from the Waiotahi mine on June 20th, viz:—Downes and Copland. These are now able to get about again, and are doing very well. Lawrence, who j was injured in the Kauwaeranga bush, i left the hospital well, and Moore is , steadily recovering from his paralysis, i The number for the month of out patients is in excess of that for many months past, viz., 66, including a number of severe accidents whioh have been treated very successfully. The cook was laid up with inflammation of the eyes for about ten days, necessitating the employment of ft substitute for that time." COKBBPONDKVCK. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary, stating that under, the provisions of the Stamp Act, 1876, it would be necessary in future to accompany all statutory declarations with a half-crown stamp, The Government would not press for arrears, but every statement must in future bear the stamp in accordance with the regulations laid down by the Act. FUKDS. A letter was also read from the Colonial Secretary's office stating that the sum of £206 11s Id had been placed to the credit of the Hospital; also the sum of £46135, being subsidy (£1 for £1) due on acoount of subscriptions received by the Treasurer up to the specified date.<—&eoeived. MANAGXKBHT.' A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary stating that with regard to the petition to the Government to have an enquiry made into the management of Hospital, the Government eonld not be expected to be always sending some one, to make enquiries, and further stating that that duty devolved upon those gentlemen who formed the Hospital Committee, and who had kindly undertaken to relieve the Government of a- large amount of trouble. The letter also asked the Committee whether there was any troth in the allegations made in regard to the Hospital management, and whether they would, take steps to put it right. PBOPOSID PBIENDLT SOOIHHt' DBXOV--BTBATIOH. x The secretary of the Court Pride of Parnell, and Pride of the North (Mr C. Ahier), wrote declining to take part in the :• proposed demonstration for the benefit of-: the funds of the Hospital, but agreed to walk in regalia provided they had no - work to do in connection with the demonstration. .' ■ . On the motion of Mr Mellhone . seconded by the Key. S. J. Neill/it wai decided to convene a meeting of representatives of Friendly Societies/to be held at an early date to arrange for the de* monstration. • 4 •.
TBHDBBS. Tenderers for the ensuing six months for snppliei of the Thames Hospital ware as follows:—Groceries, Mean and 00. (accepted), and Heirin Bros.; Meat, Dalziel (accepted), Walsh, and Baseman; this was a close contest, there being bait: id difference between Dalsiel and Walsh. Bread, Bartley (accepted),, Folljamea and Scott, and Bollerson and Son; Milk, Berk (accepted) and Williams; Washing, Mrs J. O'Brien; Funerals, Twentjman (accepted) and J. Cocks.
THE GABDUTSB. A mild protest was read from MT^Minmt . against reducing his salary as fardener of the institution from 90s to 20s per . month. . . ■ ■ Mr Frater said he thought 30i per ; month was not a large pan to pay, per month to a man who had a wife to rapport besides himself. He moved that the ! gardener receive 30s per month af ; heretofore. : The Sev. P. O'fieiUy remarked that dropping 10s a month from a man wnoee wage was 30s was worse than the Government ten per ,cent. N redaction. Mr Ahier seconded Mr Prater'! motion, and it was unanimously agreed to. HOUSE COKMITTXB. Messrs McCullough, Mellhone, Mulligan, and the Bey. S. J.
