WELLINGTON.
This day. The Magistrates convicted the proprie-■ tor of the Albion Hotel for hating in his possession seven boxes of cigars, not bear* ing the stamp required by the Act. The Magistrates were of opinion that there was no attempt to defraud the revenue, and exressed a hope that the penalty would be migigated. The Hinemoa, with the murderer Tuhia on board, arrived at eleven this morning. A large number of people were on the wharf to catch sight of the prisoner Tuhia, who walked ashore and was at once driven the gaol. He appeared quite calm. Ewen MoColl, the Government librarian, died on Saturday night from a shock of paralysis. At the Magistrates Court the charge against the Captain and steward of the ship Wairoa, for alleged smuggling, was dismissed. In the charge against the Captain for making false returns of stores to the Customs a fine of £25 was inflicted. The Magistrate held that the shipping office was to blame for the error.
