WEEKLY GOLD RETURNS.

Two horses, a white and a sorrel, were matched for a race in Yorkshire. The betting was high on the white, but the sorrel had its backers. The day before the race it wag discovered by the friends of- the .white that he was off bis teed, and would be in no condition to ran. So they made up a purse and bribed; the rider of the sorrel to lose the race, and let white take take the lead. To their amazement however the sorrel horse won the nee. " We are sold, as sure as a gun " said one of the bribers to the other, " Did you pay him the money P" asked the other. " Yes, I did; and he swore ire should win." " Bless my soul," said the other, " is there no such thing as an honest man left in the world P "—heaving a sigh of vast proportion. ' A new and interesting game haa been started for evening parties. The ladies write their names on a slip of paper, wrap it up in. a ball of yarn or rags, and when they get to the place where the party is to be held, each lady, jputt her ball in a basket. Before leaving, each gentleman draws a ball from the basket ' and takes the lady home whose name it found in the ball. It's mope fun than having the measles or falling off a log to see them pairing off.
