The suggestion offered by us in a late issue we are pleased to see is being acted upon-—namely, that the local authorities be requested to call a public meeting re the urgent necessity there exists for having the road constructed through the Komata. It may be remembered that the Government did grant a sum of money .to the County Council for the construction of the Komata section of the Ohinemuri road, but afterwards, upon some opposition being shown by the natives, requested the authorities to suspend operations until such time as men of the Armed Constabulary could be spared from New Plymouth when they would lie sent here and the road formed, notwithstanding the opposition of Tnkukino. It is well-known that the Government have discharged a number of men at the Waimate Plains, but the promise to send a detachment to the Thames has apparently been forgotten by them. The public meeting, which, we trust the acting County Chairman will call, should not forget the circumstances just mentioned, and a resolution should be carried reminding the Ministry of the same, and also pointing out the urgent necessity there exists for the completion of the main road to the Upper Thames.
