Ik consequence of oar Te Arpfaa pigeongrams and a prcis of other matter, we are compelled to hqld over a leader a some local news.

Mbmbbbb of the Scottish Battalion, hand, and cadets are requested to parade at three o'clock to-morrow to attend the funeral of the late Tol. McGregor, No. 1 Company. Members of other companies are invited to attend.

Wb are informed by A. «F. Allom, Esq., now in charge of the departments at Thames, that the appointments of Hurry Kenrick Esq., as Warden, and F. J. Burgess Esq., as Receiver of Goldfields Revenue, and Mining Registrar for the Aroha Gold .Mining District, were made in Wellington at an early hour this morning, and that these appointments, as well as the Gold Mining Regulations and regulations for the Aroha Special Licensing District, are published in a General Govern* ment Gazette of this date.

All who hare not already done so should see the Sightaecope exhibition. The j* Voyage of the Moon " was represented last night, and the prizes distributed gave the greatest satisfaction. On Saturday next, a silver watch and other prizes will be given away.

Thanks to our feathered messengers we are enabled to-day to give our readers a full account of the proceedings of the opening of Te Aroha. Several birds were used, and the longest time taken by any of them was 40 minutes.

We are informed by Messrs Frater Bros, that the, whole of the shares in the Aroha Gold Mining Company-—the Prospectors'— have been taken up; the 4000 reserved for the Auckland and, Waikato people and the 2000 for the Thames we're at once applied for and the demand in each place is still unsatisfied.

The Waikato Times complains that in consequence of the rush to Te Aroha t'.ie labour market is very tight, one gentleman having been compelled to give a man 10s per da/ to do some gardening.

The Waikato Times has started to call itself the " Thames Valley Gazette."
