George Crawford, merchant, died last night from a stroke of paralysis. He was aged 70, and has been'ailing for nearly twelve months.
G. G. Griffiths of Chris tchurch has been appointed by the Wellington Racing Club as the handicapper for the summer meeting.
A two-roomed house occupied by Mary Hill, in the Glentoe Alley, was destroyed by fire. It was owned by T. Woods and T. Good, and the tenant gave up possession on Friday, but had not removed the whole of her furniture when the fire was detected. The insurance in the Standard is £30. .• . ■■" ' ' '•:'.■■■ ■■•; "'
The Divorce Court opened this morning when decrees absolute were granted in the following cases:—Ferguson Dunedin, Hancock v. Haucook, Dunedin, Denby v. Denby°and Gilbert, Auckland, Munro v. Munro and another, Christchurch. Decrees nisi were granted in the cases oi Gillfellan v. Gilliellan and Scott, Dunedin, and McGheev* McGhee, Dunedin.
