MOANATAIRI.

On Saturday the return of last fortnight's crushing was erroneously given as 1550zs instead of lOSozs. The smallness of the return is consequent on the falling off of the quality of the stuff obtained from the stopes on the No. 3 lode branches. In the mine there in but little new of importance worthy of notice. A slight improvement is noticeable in the Nonpareil section, the reet having 1 increased in size. The manager's report for the week is as follows:— "150 feet level—south crosscut: 31 feet has been driven east duving the fortnight, the reef being well defined and two feet thick. The quartz from here is low grade, and only pays for crushing. lam hoping to pick up a ruu of gold as the drive is extended farther east. Northwest cross-cut: The intermediate level now being put in from winze at junction of Nos. 1 and 3 reefs is opening up profitable blocks of ground, and gold is seen freely in the ground when driving. The stopes on No. 3 reef are not yielding so well as formerly, more especially above the 132 feet level. The ground is much tighter, the leaders being pinched, and not carrying so much gold. Nonpareil crosscut: The rise and stopos on this reef have improved, there being rather more stone, but the country is not at present sufficiently mineralised for much gold. I think it will improve higher up. Point Bussell.—The stuff; from here is still of low grade. During the past fortnight 309. tons of quartz has been treated, yielding 105ozs retorted gold. This low yield is owing to the stopes on branches of No. 3 falling off; I think they will improve again ere long.—l am, etc., Bobt. Comee.
