THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1880.

Kewi is reported to have said yesterday on the occasion of placing the members of the Tole family in possession of a large block of land at Oraku that he was still a man of peace and had not withdrawn from the engagements entered into with Sir Gr. Grey at Waitara. The old chieftain appears to have that virtue so seldom possessed by our politicians, steadfastness of purpose and faithfulness to his party friends. On a late ocoasion he authorised a statement to the effect that he had not had any communications with the present Government, and while such a line of policy bespeaks his friendship for the late Ministry, certainly it cannot facilitate the business of Mr Bryce's department. The block of land referred to as being handed over to Mr Tole is no doubt the famous block known as the Moonlight Survey Land, and the fact of Rewi agreeing to the transfer removes many of the difficulties that have for years prevented a good title being obtained to the land. Eewi's peaceful intentions are ; a guarantee for the good behaviour of the King natives, and while Jie renders little assistance.. to the present Government, yet by maintaining quietness he is doing a great deal towards the settlement of the Upper Waikato lands. .
