The grand sightascope exhibition opens to-night in the premises formerly the Karaka hotel. The presents to be given away are much more valuable than any ever disposed ot under similar circumstances on the Thames and are alone worth the charge of admission. Great additions have been lately made to the collection of views and besides a fancy bazaar is being held each evening, at which articles are sold at marvelously low prices.

We understand that the Board of Education have instructed Mr Barlow, teacher of calisthenics to the scholars of the Thames schools, to visit and report upon all schools in the Auckland district. Mr Barlow will leave in the course of a few days to commence the inspection.

A painful accident happened to Mr James Walker, junr., the popular manager of the Kuranui battery. He was placing some quartz in the test berdan, when his shirt sleeve became entangled in the machinery, and before be could release himself, bis arm was earned round the shaft and broken above the.wrist. Medical assistance was at once obtained, and Mr Walker is, we are glad to bear, doing as well as possible under the circumstances.

The children of St. Joseph's Convent schools of Shortiand intend giving a concert and drama about the first of December. Archbishop Steins has kindly given his patronage. The success which has alwajß attended the concerts and dramatical performances given under the supervision of the kind sisters who preside over.the convent schools leads us to believe that the coming concert will not be an exception.
