AUCKLAND
This day.
The whole of the Volunteers paraded at the Auckland Drill Shed at 9 a.m. this morningi and were afterwards formed into battalions, under the supieme command of ilajor Withers. The; whole of the companies looked eminently servicable, and the physique of the Thames and Ooromandel corps elicited favourable comment. ,
After being inspected and told off, the parade moved off in fours for the Bailway Station, where a long train of carriages was in waiting. - The embarkation was made without any confusion, none but Volunteers and members of the Press being allowed by the military train. Arriving at Ellerslie the parade was re-formed expeditiously, in mass of contiguous quarter columns. The evolutions performed were such as are frequently accomplished in our Thames battalion drills, and no hitch of any importance occurred.
